Biennial of Textile Art – BIEN 2023 will be held in spring at several locations in Slovenia. The theme of this year’s biennial is “The Sun”, and anyone interested, from all over the world, can apply and participate.

BIEN 2023 will be held between May 31 and August 10 at three locations in Slovenia: in Kranj, Škofja Loka and Jesenice, but also online. The selected artworks will be exhibited in the Globus space in Kranj, but also in the open-air museum Castle Garden in Škofja Loka.
The Sun – the source of life, but also of numerous dangers
The theme of this year’s Textile Biennial is “The Sun”. The effect of the Sun on our daily lives is so great that this theme has always been present in culture and art – in myths and legends and the fact that many polytheistic religions understand the Sun to be one of the gods.
The Sun is the source of life and at the same time a source of fear and danger due to the consequences of global warming, lack of clean water and food, as well as the possibility of acquiring skin diseases.
That is exactly the reason why the Biennial of Textile Art focuses on projects that reflect on heritage, conservation and sustainability. The goal is to create new, contemporary artistic expressions, which is why interdisciplinary artistic collaboration on projects is encouraged.
